4 Common Casement Window Problems

Your casement windows are great fixtures for your home. But like all other important features in your home like your roof, they could encounter problems. This article lists four of those problems and discusses how Renewal by Andersen®’s window components can help prevent them from happening.

4 Common Casement Window Problems

1. Window Frame Contraction

This is one of the common problems that can happen to any window, including casement windows. It happens when the material that makes up the framing and the sash expands during warm weather and shrinks during cold weather. The structural integrity of the window is compromised, causing the glass to bend (and eventually) break and the sealant to fail.

2. Rot

Regular maintenance is a must for your windows to ensure that they are in working order. Lack of it would mean allowing them to rot. Water could seep to the framing material, sash and other components. Leave it that way and they will undergo a slow and steady decay.

3. Corrosion

Your casement windows have hardware that needs to be cleaned every now and then to make sure they all work as intended. Moisture could also get to these parts, causing corrosion. With rust on the hinges or folding mechanism, it could be hard to open or close your windows.

4. Sealant Failure

The lifespan of your casement window may shorten due to the sealant not working as it should. One reason could be that the sealant was not correctly applied before installing the window. It may not have been cured long enough to firmly secure the other window components.

When any of these problems are present on your casement windows, consider getting replacements from Renewal by Andersen® of New Jersey-Metro New York.
