4 Tips For Safely Hanging Holiday Decorations In Windows

Decorating your home for Christmas may be fun, but you will still want to keep your home from sustaining damage in the process. We often get caught up in the moment and forget to consider other ways to place Christmas décor when in truth, it may only take a few reusable hooks and hangers.

If you don’t want to start the new year dealing with holiday damage, follow these rules for hanging decorations on windows easily and safely.

  1. Fishing line

If your window is looking bare without a wreath but a standard over-the-window wreath hanger won’t fit, try looping the fishing line through the wreath and making a loop on each end. Each loop should be hung in a corner of your window, and the wreath will sit precisely without the need to drill holes or attach brackets.

  1. Removable Self-Adhesive Hooks

These may be purchased at a variety of stationery and DIY stores and are useful all year. These hooks are typically advised for use in flats or other rental properties because the adhesive on the back is designed to be safe to use even on painted walls and wallpaper.

You can leave them up all year or take them down when it’s time to put away your holiday decorations.

  1. Suction Cups

If you like the look of bows or wreaths in the middle of your windows but don’t want to use anything sticky or gluey, home improvement experts suggest suction cups instead. Any hardware store should have suction cups with hooks. Attach to clean, dry windows after cleaning with warm, soapy water.

Loop wire or ties around your decoration and hang the loops from hooks. Simply store the suction cups till next year when you take them down.

  1. Hot Glue

Hot glue may be used to hang strands of garland or lights on most nonporous surfaces, and it pulls off safely after you’re done. You should test a tiny area first to make sure it doesn’t tear your paint, but it works great on siding and glass.
