A Christmas Window to Create with Your Whole Family

The holidays bring us closer to friends and family this year with the many parties, the family dinners and also the holiday events for the kids.   But when it comes to decorating, very often the task falls to just one or two people in the family.

This year have the whole family pitch in for at least one decoration and get involved in creating a family Christmas window.  This window will create not only memories while you are making it, but is also a giant art project that allows you to record how your family is now.  And you never know, it just may lead to creating a family Christmas window tradition that carries on year after year.

Supplies for This Christmas Window

To start, you are going to need:

  • multiple colors of glass paint
  • black glass marker
  • other bright glass markers.

Christmas Window Directions

One at a time, have each of your family members put their hands on the glass and trace around their hands, with the thumbs away from their hand, with the black glass marker.  The hands need to be in a creative row along the top of the window and possibly going a hand or two down the sides.

You don’t want too thick of a black line around the hand when you trace them, and you when you go around the top of the hand just make an arch from the outside of the index finger to the outside of the pinky.  Essentially, you are using their hand to trace a custom sized mitten.

Once all the hands are traced, paint a colored line at the wrist of the hand and then paint the interior of the hand with a different color.  If you feel safe enough, you can even put the name of the person under each hand.

Finally, take the black marker and draw a creative line in between each mitten making it look like they are all held together by a black string.

Take Pictures of Your Christmas Window

This holiday window is one that is great to do at the beginning of the season, then you can use is as a backdrop for your holiday Christmas cards.  Even if you don’t use it for your Christmas cards, you are going to want to take pictures of it to preserve you kid’s handprints next to yours to look at in the years to come when they get older.
