A Window Cleaning Checklist for Fall

Many homes have their windows cleaned once or twice a year. Cleaning your windows in the fall may be more beneficial than cleaning them in the spring or summer. During the autumn season, leaves and debris fall from trees and slowly but surely dirty your windows with dust and grime.

Cleaning Checklist for Fall

Cleaning your windows is a time-consuming operation, but the returns are well worth it. Window washing not only keeps your home looking its best, but it can also help you avoid having to replace your windows. Today, Renewal by Andersen® of New Jersey offers some helpful hints for keeping your windows clean this fall.

  • Vacuum/Dust Blinds and Shades. All window blinds and shades collect dust. Dusting reduces allergens, which is helpful during the winter months when you spend more time inside. Dust cloths are useless when used with an extension wand vacuum. The vacuum will collect more dust than the rag and contain it.

  • Remove and Clean Window Screens. Cleaning the window screens frequently has a noticeable effect. This is a critical step that no window cleaner should overlook. If you have access to a garden hose, use it to clean and dry the screens. Examine screens for rips and replace as necessary.

  • Wash Window Sills and Tracks. The tracks on your window replacement unit gather dirt, dust, and other debris and should be cleaned at least twice a year to keep them looking good. It’s also a good idea to clean the window sills. A window cleaning service can handle the job for you, or you can use soapy water and a rag to do it yourself.

  • Wash/Dry Clean Drapes and Curtains. Blinds and shades are also dust magnets. The autumn is an excellent time to remove them and carefully clean everything. Dry cleaning is an option for products that cannot be washed.

  • Clean Interior Window Glass. Cleaning the exterior panes isn’t enough. Everyday use dusts and grimes the inner glass. If you have pets, there will be nose prints. Then use a dust-free microfiber cloth to clean interior windows. Professionals can do this task quickly. Also for the inside.

  • Clean Exterior Window Glass. Exterior window washing requires clean cloths, window cleaning materials, squeegees, and, in certain cases, a ladder or extension poles to reach upper levels.
