    Andersen Introduces First Environmental Product Declaration

    Renewal by Andersen of San Francisco

    A group of manufacturers and window contractors in San Francisco and beyond had a meeting a few months ago. They talked about publishing the industry’s Product Category Rule. One of the companies that participated in the meeting is Andersen Corporation. As part of this initiative, we have created double-hung windows that utilize EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) materials—a first in our company’s history. Each and every San Francisco window contractor and homeowner will certainly benefit from our EPD products.

    But before we discuss the Environmental Product Declaration, let’s talk about the Product Category Rule (PCR).

    A Closer Look at the Product Category Rule

    The Product Category Rule is designed to define the range in which life cycle assessments (LCAs) and EPDs are conducted. It also seeks to improve transparency on the efforts of manufacturers to reduce the environmental impact of the processes they use to create their products. The PCR also includes green building certification systems, which recognize and reward manufactures that develop products with published EPDs.

    Our latest double-hung windows make use of the cradle-to-gate life cycle. They are made of Fibrex, which is a pre-consumer recycled material made from restored wood fiber.
