Andersen’s First Environmental Product Declaration: First Step to Sustainability

Earlier this year, a group of industry leaders and manufacturers gathered to discuss the Product Category Rule (PCR) of the industry. One of the participants in this discussion is the Andersen® Corporation. Along with our fellow innovators, we defined specific industry metrics. We also encouraged an increase in transparency about the sustainability efforts of manufacturers.

As part of this initiative, our parent company manufactured double-hung windows that use Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) materials. This marks a first in the company’s history. Our EPD replacement windows in Cincinnati will surely bring many benefits to homeowners.

Defining the PRC

The Product Category Rule (PCR) defines the range in the conduction of life cycle assessments (LCAs) and EPDs. It also aims to improve the transparency on the efforts of manufacturers to consider the environmental impact of their processes.

Along with this, the PCR also involves green building certification systems. This aims to recognize manufacturers who create products with published EDPs. Andersen is proud to be the first window manufacturer to be Green Seal Certified. Our parent company is the first to earn the distinction of being an ENERGY STAR ® National Window Partner of the Year.

Dedication to Sustainability: Renewal by Andersen’s EPD Double-Hung Windows

Renewal by Andersen® of Cincinnati shares this commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. Our double-hung window replacement in Cincinnati is designed to last for many years. This is because we use Fibrex® wood composite, preventing our windows from rotting, cracking, and peeling. When combined with High-Performance™ Low E4® glass or High-Performance Low E4 SmartSun™ glass, our windows become extra efficient.

Jim Weglewski, Andersen Corporation’s VP of Sustainability, underscores the introduction of EPD products as an important step in our sustainability journey. He added that we could produce more durable and energy-efficient products by maximizing product transparency. These products will be a great help to homeowners by allowing them to cut down on their utility consumption.
