Clean Windows to Match a Clean Calendar

With fall window cleaning well behind us now, and spring cleaning quite a few months away your windows may need a little TLC to become clean windows once again.  Besides, wouldn’t it be nice to have clean windows to match that nice clean calendar you have right now?

Concentrate on Clean Windows from the Inside

Unfortunately, the cold outside prevents us from getting both sides of the window clean during the winter.  Trying the clean the outside of the windows will just end up frustrating you because the cleaner or water that you use will freeze to the windows.  Frozen window cleaner doesn’t do much good in getting the dirt off the window since it doesn’t move around or come off anyway.

You could clean the outside of your windows if they are really dirty, with car window washer fluid that has antifreeze in it. But, you have to consider the damage it could do if you have any wood around your windows on the outside.  You also probably don’t want these chemicals dripping down into the same soil where you plant flowers or edible plants when it is warmer.

Getting Clean Windows Fast

To start, you need to vacuum out the window track to remove all of the dead bugs and loose dirt.  You can also do this step last, but it will be much easier if you do this step first when the loose dirt is still dry before you spray the window cleaner on the glass.

Next, spray the window with window cleaner in sections starting from the top down.  Many people just spray the whole window and then clean, but usually they miss spots and have to go back.  If you divide the window into four sections and clean each section on at a time, you will be able to concentrate on getting a smaller section of the window all clean the first time.

Finishing up Your Clean Windows

Once the glass in the window is all clean, don’t forget to wipe down the areas around the window and in the track.  Leaving these areas dirty will make the window still look dirty, even after you just cleaned it.  For wood areas, use a slightly damp cloth to prevent damage to the wood.

You can also add a little extra shine by taking an old, soft tee-shirt and use it to polish your clean windows.
