Creating Gingerbread House Windows

There are just some houses that look like perfect gingerbread houses when they are wrapped up in white lights for Christmas.  It almost looks unreal at how perfect these types of houses look when you drive by to admire them.  The structure of the house is just the right design and the white lights give the look of white icing.

For those homeowners that are lucky enough to have houses like this, why not go all the way and finish the effect?  All that is left to be done is to add the candy.

Hanging Large Gingerbread House Candy

The easiest way to add candy is to hang two to three large pieces of candy in each of your windows.  The lights that are already on the house will illuminate the pieces of candy, and it will look like you had planned the whole gingerbread house look in the first place.

There are two different ways you can obtain large pieces of candy to hang in your windows, to add to the gingerbread house look.  First, you can look in your local stores and see if they sell them as Christmas decorations.  If you cannot find fake, large pieces of candy in the store, you will more than likely be able to find candy ornaments that you can hang in your window.  They will not have the same effect, but they will do if there is nothing else available.

Second, you can always create your own.  Creating your own pieces of candy is so simple that your kids can help.  You will need three things to create your own:

  • Flat round foam circles
  • Colored cellophane gift wrap
  • Ribbon

To create, take the cellophane and roll the foam circle up in it.  You want to roll it enough times that you can’t see the white and are left with a rectangle that has two open ends.  Take the excess cellophane at the open ends and twist it one or two times near the foam circle.  Finally, take the ribbon and tie it over the twisted cellophane to keep it twisted.

When you are done, you will have a decoration that resembles a large, wrapped piece of candy.

Make as many pieces of candy as you need for the windows in your home.  Once you have all the pieces done, take brightly colored ribbon and hang them in your windows.
