Enhancing the Look of Your Outside Windows

You can do more than just add paint to your outside windows to change their look.  By changing some of the features of the trim and the window surroundings, you can completely change how the outside of your home looks.

A lot of these projects you can complete yourself, or you can hire a professional to do it for you.  If you choose to tackle these changes on your own, get professional advice on how to install the changes and not damage the windows or the exterior of your home.

Outside Window Shutters

Adding window shutters to the outside of your home is, by far, the most drastic of these three changes you can make.  You aren’t just adding a subtle change to the trim; you are introducing a completely new feature to the exterior of your home.

Shutters come in a large range of shapes and looks, so choose the look that best fits what you what the outside of your home to look like.

Single Trim for Outside Windows

Most windows already come with trim around them, but not all do.  If you have no trim around your window, you can give your home a new look just by adding trim.

If you already have trim, repainting it a new color or refreshing its current color is the easiest way to change its look.  You can also replace the old plain trim with trim that is made out of different textured wood or is designed with artistic patterns to create a subtly different look to your home.

Multiple Trims for Outside Windows

When it comes to the trim around your outside windows, you aren’t confined to having just one type or even one layer.  There are a number of different ways you can give your trim a different look.

First, you can have multiple layers of trim.  By putting down a base trim around the window and then placing a second trim that is not as wide on top of that, you give your windows a new look.  You can paint both trims the same color, different colors, or even have a pattern in the top trim.  The look is really only limited by you.

A second type of trim to think about, is corner trim.  This trim is simply added at the corner of your window trim to enhance the current trim and give your outside window a new, unique shape.
