Halloween Window Shadows

A simple effect that you can create in your windows is to add shadow figures. These figures have no substance and are literally thin paper shadows that are attached to the glass in your window. You can purchase them in the stores at varying levels of quality, or you can make your own.

Window Shadows from the Store

The window shadows you can purchase at the store are similar to the window clings that you have been able to purchase to decorate your window with for decades. The only difference is that there are no pictures on these clings they are only black outlines.

These outlines create different Halloween scenes from the Grim Reaper popping out from the corner of your window to Halloween Trees with pumpkins hanging from the branches. Most of the window shadows that you find in the stores are larger scenes that will take up a good portion of a window. You can also find smaller window shadows to place in smaller windows, but they are a little harder to find.

Make Your Own Window Shadows

Making your own window shadows is very easy to do.

For the paper, use black, printer paper or black, scrapbook paper because of its smother texture. If you can’t find either of those black construction paper will work in a pinch.

Next, choose the pattern you want to have on your window. To find patterns, search the internet and print out the ones that you like. You can either trace the outline of the pattern on the paper and cut it out, or if you are talented with the scissors, cut the shape out of the paper without tracing it.

Another way to make your window shadows is to copy and paste the pattern you find into a Word document. Then you can just print out the window shadow on your printer and cut them out. This method will take up a lot of printer ink though, and you need to decide if it is more economical for you to use the paper that is already black or the paper you need to make black.

If you do end up making your own, you will be restricted to making shadow patterns that are no larger than a single piece of paper. The larger scenes that you can purchase in the stores won’t be able to be replicated, and still look good with a handmade window shadow.
