How New Windows Cool Down Your Home During Summer

Extreme summer heat can be very frustrating and uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are things you can do to cool down. As a homeowner, replacing your windows can help reduce your home’s temperature during summer.

How New Windows Cool Down Your Home During Summer

Switch to Energy-Efficient Windows

If your home gets uncomfortably hot during summer, your windows may be aging and inefficient. By switching to energy-efficient windows, your home can maintain a cool temperature. Energy-efficient windows are designed not just to save energy, but also to help you live comfortably. These smart windows are equipped with materials and functions that will keep your home cool and well-ventilated.

Anti-Heat Window Components

Energy-efficient windows are designed to be well insulated. Your replacement windows are equipped with low-emissivity (Low-E) glass that reduces heat transfer through your windows. There’s a thin layer of protection in the glass that keeps the heat outside your home. Your new windows also have Argon and Krypton gases. These gases are placed between the glass panes to help with your window’s insulation, thereby, helping maintain the temperature inside your home. When these gases are combined with a Low-E coated window, they bring the temperature of your window closer to the conditioned temperature inside your home.

In addition, energy-efficient windows have low Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings. SHGC is the rate of the amount of solar radiation that penetrates a window’s glass. A lower rate means less solar heat inside your home. Your old and aging windows would probably rate high for SHGC. It’s important to replace your windows with energy-efficient windows with a low SHGC rating.
