Maintenance Checklist: How to Clean Sliding Door Tracks

Why do Knoxville homeowners choose to install sliding patio doors at their homes? Apart from its contemporary charm, this door style has a compact design that’s perfect for living spaces that don’t accommodate hinged doors. Plus, it has a wide glass area that allows daylight to illuminate and improve a home’s energy efficiency. Sliding doors, however, aren’t maintenance-free, just like any other type of door.

Maintenance Checklist: How to Clean Sliding Door Tracks

Renewal by Andersen® of Knoxville shares three ways to clean the tracks of your sliding replacement doors.

Basic Patio Door Cleaning

Start by vacuuming the tracks to reach into their corners. Try to remove as much dirt or debris as you can to make it easier to finish the entire cleaning procedure. Create a simple cleaning solution using a cup of water with a drop of non-abrasive cleaner. You can then scrub the tracks with an old toothbrush or a wire brush with soft bristles. Wipe down the tracks using a rag or paper towel. To keep your sliding door’s smooth operation, clean the tracks at least once a week.

Cleaning Solution for Stubborn Dirt

Mix equal parts cold water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake the bottle before using it as a cleaning solution. You can also use baking soda on the tracks of your sliding doors that have a lot of dirt buildup. Spritz the tracks with the vinegar solution and let it fizz for about five to 10 minutes. Scrub the area using a toothbrush. Use a rag to lift up excess dirt and grime

Lubricating Door Tracks

Most people use silicone lubricant on the tracks. You can use other products, however, that are suggested by your contractor.
