New Picture Frames from Old Windows and Doors

When you walk through the store, you may notice all the different types of new picture frames companies come up with to sell. They come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, cartoon characters, animals, vintage metals, and much more than can be listed here. Instead of buying their creations, bypass all the frames in the store and put together your own unique picture frames for your home.

Vintage Window Picture Frames

You can turn old window frames into picture frames with just a small handful of supplies. You will need an old window frame (of course), enough pictures to fill each frame that is in the window, a piece of poster board, and double-stick tape.

Take the poster board and cut it so that it fits snuggly inside the whole frame. This is going to be the backing of the frame. Lay the poster board on the table and arrange each of the pictures on it where you think they will be centered in each separate glass pane.

Place the window gently over the poster board and rearrange the pictures (if needed) so they are centered in each frame. Remove the window and mark lightly with a pencil where each photo lines up. Marking the photos where they should be will prevent you from having to use the window again to realign if photos accidentally get moved.

Now that the photos are in place, use the double-sided tape to attach them to the poster board. Once all of the photos are secure, put the poster board in the window and your new picture frame is complete.

Another alternative to putting a picture in each section is only to put pictures in alternate sections. In the remaining sections, put in a beautiful copy of your favorite poem or just a piece of colored paper.

Vintage Door Picture Frames

You can turn doorframes into picture frames the same way that we did with the old, window frames above. The only difference is, with most doors; you will have the lower half of the door that remains undecorated. To solve this problem, you can either decorate this section or hide it behind a piece of furniture.

How you decorate the lower half of the door will depend on your craftiness level and the décor in your room. You can stencil shapes, paint a picture, hang other decorations or you can also use scrapbook lettering and put up your favorite saying or poem in this open space.

If you have a door where the glass is missing, you can hang several separate picture frames in the space instead.
