Renewal by Andersen® Glass Options More than Meets the Eye

Renewal by Andersen® has been producing quality windows since the 1970s. We believe that overall window performance depends on three things: frame, installation, and glass. Before we tackle our glass packages, you should understand the following performance ratings of windows:

Home Improvement

• U-factor – This measures the rate of non-solar heat flow. The lower the value, the more energy-efficient the glass is.
• Solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) – This is the rate of solar radiation admitted through the glass. A lower value displays better shading ability and transmission of less solar heat.
• Visible transmittance (VT) – This measures the visible spectrum of light that comes into your home. A higher rating means your windows let in more visible light.

Another way to measure glass performance is how well these block harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. This part of the solar spectrum causes fading in your valuables and furniture.

High-Performance™ Low-E4® Glass

This is our standard offering for our New Jersey windows and patio doors. It can block up to 84% of harmful UV rays and has a VT of 72%. It also has a U-factor rating of 0.25 and SHGC of 42%. These ratings indicate that High-Performance Low-E4 Glass is 45% more efficient in winter and 56% more efficient during summer. This can lead to 25% of savings in your energy bills.

High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™ Glass

If you are looking for the most energy-efficient glass for your windows, SmartSun is your best choice. It is 47% more efficient in winter and 70% more efficient during summer, with a U-factor of 0.24 and SHGC of 28%. It also has a VT of 65% and blocks 95% of UV light. This type of glass works best in areas that have a hot climate.

High-Performance Low-E4 Sun Glass

This glass package has our highest rating in terms of SHGC, with 26%. High-Performance Low-E4 Sun keeps homes cooler during hot days. It also comes with a tint coating that reduces visible light. Its U-factor is 0.25, while UV blockage rate is 84%.

To make the glass on our windows and patio doors in New Jersey more efficient, we also use spacers, double glazing, argon gas fillers, and dual seals. Together with professional installation and insulating Fibrex® frames, you can ensure years of savings in your utility bills.
