Telltale Signs of a Broken Window Seal

If the windows of your home look like they’ve weathered too soon, then you might want to check their seals. They may already be damaged or broken. Before you think of having a window replacement, you should check first how badly your window seal is damaged.

A Draft Around Your Window

Although this does not always happen, if you have casement windows and feel a draft coming from them, then the seal may be broken. A draft can mean additional costs for your monthly utility bill, so you need to replace the window seal immediately. Your replacement window seal should also be one that is more energy efficient. A window seal rated with a U-value is recommended, unlike the R-value of insulation. The lower the U-value, the better.

Glass Distortion and Condensation

Some windows are filled with argon or krypton gas. When the seal is broken, the gas can either settle to the bottom of the window or leak out. This can cause your window to bow inward. However, if you notice some moisture forming around the bottom or the corners of your window, that is also a sign that your window seal is broken. You may need to replace the seal especially if it is winter. This kind of issue can also happen on double-hung windows, which also become more difficult to open and close over time.

These are just some of the common signs that your window seal is broken. If you spot any of these, Renewal by Andersen® of Atlanta can set things right. We employ only the best licensed experts with years of experience.
