Vintage Farmhouse Window Picture Frames

With Christmas fast approaching you may be looking for unique Christmas gifts for those special people that seem to have everything already. A good way to look for gifts for people like this is to make a gift for them that no one else has, or to take an item and personalize it.

If you can get a hold of some old farmhouse windows, you can create a gift that does both.

Creating a Unique Gift

Old Farmhouse windows are still a popular decoration that is used in and around homes today. The best thing about them is that there are so many different things that you can do with them, that there are seldom two that are the same.

As a Christmas gift for that friend or family member that has everything you are going to turn these windows in to picture frames that they can hang on their wall.

To start, you need to decide if you are going to personalize it or not. If you are not to personalize it, all you need to do is make some changes to the window and then it will be ready.

These changes include deciding if you are going to keep the old Farmhouse window in the current shape it is in or if you want to sand off the old paint and add a fresh coat to spruce it up a bit. You will also need to add a backing so that the person can easily slide their pictures into this new picture frame they will have. This backing can be something like poster board or kraft paper that is cut to the specific size of the window.

Finally, to make it easier for the person receiving the gift to hang it on their wall, add hanging wire or two picture frame hooks on the back.

Making it Personal

To make this new window picture frame into a more personalized gift, all you are going to do is decorate the outside edge of the picture frame. You can use lettering that fits the décor or personality of the person you are giving it to and put their name on the picture frame. You can also personalize it for the following themes with small, matching craft supplies that you can find at the store:

  • For an anniversary
  • For a wedding
  • First Christmas together
  • New baby
  • For a child
  • With a specific theme of something the person likes (hunting, Disney, lighthouses, etc.)
  • To hold the pictures of a specific vacation

This is just a small list of ideas, but you know what your friend or family member would like. So just use your imagination and soon that old Farmhouse window will be transformed into a gift that won’t be hidden in a closet after the holidays.
