Increasing the Beauty of Your Exterior Windows

Brand new windows automatically make a house look better than it did when the old, worn out windows were in. But there are things you can do to make those new windows look even better.  Things like repainting the trim around the windows or even adding trim when there was none.

Here are a couple ideas of how to further enhance the look of those new windows that you just had installed.  Most of these ideas you could do on your own, but would be much easier if you hired a professional to handle it for you.

Add Trim to the Exterior Windows

When homes are built, most of them have the trim around the windows added at that time.  But there are some homes were this did not happen.  If you have one of these homes, adding that trim around your windows will enhance the architectural look of both your window and the outside of the home.

And by painting the trim in a color that is different but matches the exterior color of your home, it will make the trim stand out even more.

Add Multiple Trims to the Exterior Windows

You aren’t stuck with using just one style or layer of trim around your windows, that is just the standard that most homes are automatically built with.  You can give your exterior windows a unique look that is all their own and different from all the other cookie cutter houses in your neighborhood.

First, you can have multiple layers of trim around your exterior windows.  The simplest way to do this is to put down a base trim around the windows, and then put a more narrow trim around the window on top of that.  The top trim can be the same as the bottom trim or it can be a pattern to give a more artistic look.

Second, you could just trim the corners of the window. This trim also gives your windows a more unique look, and actual changes the shape of your window.

Add Exterior Window Shutters

Exterior window shutters are a more drastic change to the exterior of your home, but they also enhance the look of your home much more than just window trim.  With window shutters, you aren’t just adding to the windows anymore, instead you are actually adding to the exterior wall of your home.

Shutters come in a huge range of sizes, shapes, styles, and colors. So it should be easy to choose the exterior window shutters that fit both your personality and the look of your home.
