Using Old Windows for Wall and Ceiling Decor

We have already talked about some of the many uses for old windows, but there are so many more. Being able to reuse your old windows after you have put in replacement windows saves you money; and also helps the environment because you aren’t throwing the old windows away.

Old Windows into Mirrors

Instead of just hanging old windows on the wall, change them into mirrors instead.  That way you still get to retain the old window look that you love so much, but now you have a wall decoration that is functional, as well.

To change old windows in to mirrors, you have to replace the glass of the window with a mirror.  You can try this yourself, if you feel comfortable with working with old glass and wood, or you can take it to a professional to do for you.  Just remember, if you try to do it yourself and you aren’t careful, you could ruin the whole window.

Message Boards Using Old Windows

We have all seen the cork boards that people pin information to, whether they are located in public places or in private homes. Now, you can have one also, but a much more unique one. Putting your message board together will take less time than it will to shop for all of the pieces to it. For this project you will need:

• 1 old window

• Thick corkboard

• Glue that is made to adhere to glass

When you have all the material gathered, cut the corkboard to fit between the grilles on the outside of the glass. Then glue the corkboard down to the glass and allow to dry. When it is dry, fix securely to your wall and enjoy your new message board.

Hanging Old Windows from the Ceiling

Just hanging up old windows on your walls can make them a unique wall decoration. But have you ever thought about hanging them from your ceiling? When you hang old windows from your ceiling, you have to make sure that they are very secure. You don’t want that old window to come crashing down on someone’s head.

Once you have secured the window from the ceiling (so that it is horizontal to the ceiling) drape a table cloth that is made from a light, sheer material over it. Now, you have a ceiling decoration made from an old window that is both unique and elegant.
