Using Vintage Windows for Furniture

You don’t have to be restricted to using vintage windows for just wall décor when you choose to recycle them to decorate your house.  You can also use them as furniture, if you are brave enough to be different.

Changing Vintage Windows into Coffee Tables

If the old windows you have are large enough, you can make them into a coffee table. Before you skip this section thinking that you would never be able to do this, it is much easier than it sounds. You only need 4 things to make this table:

• 1 old, large window

• 4 table legs

• 8 “L” shaped metal brackets

• Screws for the brackets

For each of the table legs, secure 2 “L” shaped brackets to the leg and then to the window frame. There should be a bracket on two different sides of the leg for each length of the window frame that it touches. Once they are all secure, flip the table over on its legs, and you are done. To make the brackets blend in better, you may want to paint them the same color as the legs.

If you have smaller windows, you can still use this same project.  But instead of making a coffee table, you will be making side tables or even nightstands for your bedroom.

Vintage Windows as Glass Doors

Many people buy furniture that has glass doors on them because the glass doors make the piece look nice.  If you have open pieces of furniture at home like an old shelf, a book case, or even an entertainment center; why not use vintage windows and install your own glass doors on them?  It’s not hard to do, and it could be completed in just a couple minutes.

All you need are hinges with an antique look to them and some screws for your materials.  For the work to complete the project, simply use the hinges to attach the vintage windows to the piece of furniture they are to be glass doors for and you are done.  The only additional work you may want to do is paint the piece of furniture or window frame so they match each other.

If you have open cabinets in your old kitchen, you may want to think about doing this same exact project in there.  The vintage windows on the open cabinets will add to its already old fashioned look, enhancing the kitchen’s charm.
